1 Viewing images
2 Lightbox function – storing your selected pictures on your own page
3 Email your lightbox – email the address of your page to colleagues
There are two ways to view images in our online database. You can either click on a main category heading on the image database heading:
Or use the search form at the top of the page:
At the top right hand of every page in the image database you will see a row of buttons. See below for an explanation of their functions (NB there is a further explanation of the lightbox function below):
After conducting a search, or clicking down through categories, you will be presented with a series of thumbnail versions of the images. Click on a thumbnail image to enlarge it and see the full caption. If you are a registered user, you will then be able to follow the link in the full caption to be sent the high-resolution version of the image.
Underneath each thumbnail image, you will see a box with the word lightbox next to it (see above). If you click in the white box, a red arrow will appear (see below) and the thumbnail will be stored on a special page created especially for you – called a lightbox. To view this page once you have added your chosen images, click on the lightbox button in the top right-hand corner of the page.
Once you have clicked on the lightbox button, you will see a page containing all the images that you selected (see below). To clear the lightbox, click the button at the top of the page. If you do not clear the page at the end of a session, it will be saved for 90 days and will be visible on your next visit when you click the lightbox button.
Please note, in order for our site to remember you, a cookie (small information file) is stored on your computer. If this feature is disabled in your browser, or you attempt to access the site from another machine, you will not be recognised and you will not be able to see your stored lightbox in this way. However, if you use the email button on your lightbox page to send yourself the full web address of your stored page, you can still enter that address in your browser to see your lightbox.
Clicking on the email button (top right hand corner of your lightbox page) will open a new window showing a blank version of the form below. Fill out the fields to send a colleague and/or yourself the address of your lightbox page and a message.
